Gibraltar post-Brexit – no longer an online gambling haven? The decision of the people of the UK to vote to leave the EU has created fears that Gibraltar will lose its status as something of an online gambling haven. Gambling Affiliation: Facilitating Affiliate – Operator Relationships

SiGMA-igaming-Gambling-Affiliation2

The Gambling Affiliation Team

Gambling Affiliation is an independent platform with a team of expertise ranging from affiliate managers to web developers and administrators.

Antoine Szczot, the CEO of the company, graduated from an engineering school in France in 2003. He has been running Gaming Affiliation since its inception – and shared a few words with us regarding this ambitious project.

The gambling industry has changed considerably in the past 10 years. According to Antoine, these changes were most evident in the areas of regulation, professionalisation, and technology.

“Regulation is by far the main change,” he says. “Each time a country regulators online gaming, it shakes the entire landscape of the industry. “People are more trained, more educated and things are becoming more transparent,” he adds. “When we started, most of the operators didn’t have a proper affiliate program – this has drastically changed over the years.”

SiGMA-igaming-Antoine Szczot

Antoine Szczot – CEO of Gambling Affiliation

Gambling Affiliation was set up due to a lack of affiliate platforms dedicated to iGaming. In fact, according to Antoine, there weren’t any at all. The company was set up in France in 2005, and in 2007 it moved to Malta. The main geos in which the company operates are France, UK, Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain and Portugal. “We are also looking at new markets such as LATAM, Greece and Russia,” Antoine says.

Currently, the team is working on bringing more services to their affiliates and advertisers. “We aim to show iGaming brands the best way forward,” Antoine explains. “We have developed a number of tools such as an odds comparator, a bonus comparator and a geo-targeted multi-banners widget.”

The company often reach out to affiliates from outside the gaming vertical. “Our a liates come from all verticals. The key for an a liate is to be creative and nd out the way to convert his audience to any type of merchant,” Antoine says.

On the topic of regulation, Antoine explains that in general, it is positive thing that helps the industry. “We are putting most of our efforts to develop geos which are regulated,” he says. “When it comes to the affiliates, a code of conduct would be better than an inappropriate licensing system.”

Consolidation in the industry doesn’t seem to worry him, either. “It creates a lot of competition,” he says, “and shows that our industry is flourishing.”

But what is it that distinguishes Gambling Affiliation from the other affiliate network companies out there? Antoine explains to us that their service is unique, and entirely custom-made. “Each affiliate has working with us have a dedicated account manager which is providing them with the best deals to match their audience advising them constantly,” he says. Affiliates also benefit from additional tools that aren’t available anywhere else.

The future seems even more interesting for Gambling Affiliation. “The next milestone for us would be to provide more services to our affiliates. We will release some of them by the end of the year,” Antoine says. “We are also heavily promoting our brand new software solution which allows operators to use our platform as their affiliate software.”

ThePOGG Becomes a Vetting Process Judge at SiGMA17

The dust barely settled after a record-breaking edition and SiGMA keeps raising the bar. In an unprecedented move, the organisers are putting the affiliates at the heart of the show by vetting all operators that want to exhibit. With AskGamblers and Affiliate Guard Dog already on board, ThePOGG is joining SiGMA becoming the next vetting process judge.

ThePOGGThe partnership with ThePogg will reinforce the quality of the show by making sure, that only fair operators are exhibiting.

ThePOGG.com is an online gaming portal dedicated to providing best quality and thorough reviews of online casinos. The portal uses a team of experienced players who conduct mystery shopper testing of all of the casinos that are on the website before the review is released. This process ensures accurate reports on customer service, bonuses and payout times at all the reviewed casinos.

The organisers of SiGMA want affiliates to walk across the SiGMA floor knowing that all exhibiting operators are genuine, that the traffic sent to them will be handled well and that commissions are paid in full and in due time.

Manager and ADR Official of ThePOGG, Duncan Garvie, said: “The SIGMA conference is breaking new ground and setting themselves ahead of all other conferences with a highly innovative initiative to vet prospective exhibitors. This effort to weed out those operators that fail to treat their player and affiliates appropriately is highly commendable and we at ThePOGG are proud to be associated with such a positive effort to improve our industry.”

Preparations for SiGMA17 are already in full swing. The details on the next edition will be announced in early 2017, but booths are already selling fast. Stay tuned and check maltaigamingsummit.com for regular updates.

Erik Bergman

Erik Bergman, CEO of Catena Media will participate in the CEO panel speech about the bright future of affiliate marketing. Catena Media has grown from 3 employees in 2012 to 22 employees in 2014 and aim to keep the same high pace.

“We are reinvesting all our profits in the business and we are constantly looking for other affiliates that might be interesting options for mergers or acquisitions”, describes Erik. In May 2013 the site JohnSlots was founded. Already within its first year it became among the biggest online casino guides in Scandinavia and since then it has kept growing. In early 2014 the twin site of JohnSlots was launched, MrBet with the aim to duplicate the same journey,

“The key to success has been great content, and a lot of it. We have reviewed over 600 games in four different languages that all can be demo played on our sites. We have great relationships with over 75 gaming operators that help us contribute great offers to our visitors. These have been two of the main factors to the rapid growth of our company”, Erik explains further.

Making the Big Leap in 2016: from Affiliate to Operator

The eGaming industry has never been as active as now: new brands are launched, historic operators join forces with mega-mergers, new legislative frameworks create opportunities (plus question marks to address), the eGaming experience is becoming wearable and, most important, players cannot get enough of it.

The timing is ideal for serious affiliates who want to bring their business to the next level, becoming operators. In order to make this leap successful (and not just a wishful “leap of faith”), there are some aspects in terms of scalability, branding, marketing, operations, management of existing partnerships etc. that an affiliate has to take consider, plan and take care of.

First, it all starts with your target audience and where you are now. For example, if you have a very strong presence in the Nordic markets, that would be the natural choice to start with your own brand. You want to ask yourself how scalable and transferable your current assets/strategies are. If you built a solid, double opt-in newsletter (well done, that’s the gift which keeps giving!), then analyze its current conversion rate. How many times do the subscribers need to see a new eGaming site featured there, before they become players? Which promotions are stronger motivators for them? What is their average lifetime value? Does it provide the necessary critical mass to support the first phase of your operations, while you are investing in additional acquisition channels?

ICE 2015 exhibition

ICE 2015 exhibition

The same applies to a media-buying centered approach. If you are currently buying CPM banners, doing PPV, to bring players to the sites you are affiliate with, which casinos tend to work better? Well established brands? New entrants with a fresh approach? What is the ROI for each euro invested on each channel?

Once you have done your homeworks in terms of internal business analysis and external business intelligence – that shouldn’t take you long, considering you probably know your business inside out – you are ready to go ahead.

What are the next steps to become a profitable eGaming operator, when you start as an affiliate? You’ll discover them on Thursday, February 4th, by attending the “Affiliate to Operator” seminar organized by SiGMA at ICE. Eman Pulis will moderate a panel with Joakim Stockman, Robin Reed (Guts), Johan Styren (LeoVegas), Roger Admeus (iGaming Cloud), leading eGaming legal expert Tal Itzhak Ron and myself (Frank Ravanelli). I will focus primarily on how affiliates can start operating their own online casinos, plus binary options and DFS platforms. Mortein Klein will be sharing the floor with three other speakers to share stories and insights about the challenges and opportunities that affiliates face along their journey.

In the words of SiGMA organiser Eman Pulis, “Given the way the igaming industry is evolving, we all agreed that the show should be all encompassing rather than focus one area such as regulatory or affiliates. For the past number of years we have been noticing the three distinct pillars within the industry – solution providers, operators and affiliates – coming closer together. Today’s affiliate, for instance, is fast becoming a successful operator within months. With SiGMA we wanted to offer a 360° igaming showcase in Malta that reflects this trend.”

Co-organiser Dennis Dyhr-Hansen went on to elaborate, “We go that extra mile to ensure that the crème de la crème of the affiliate world attends SiGMA. We approach top affiliates and invite them over to Malta, expenses on us. We also have a number of competitions for new affiliates, were we will be giving out a number of flight tickets and VIP treats. SiGMA is organized by a different team of motivated individuals, which means that we have different leads, we know different affiliates. This, in itself, is a guarantee that operators won’t be meeting the same faces over and over again.”
