We met Carl Ahlvik and Christian Skoglund from Casinomir.com to talk about their affiliate business.
Both of us have previously lived in Malta so we have a lot of friends there and visit Malta quite often. One of our friends had an incredible bad looking affiliate site that was generating a lot of money, so we decided that perhaps we could make something better. This was one year ago now and it has been a very instructive, rewarding and fun year for us. Our main site is Casinomir.com (www.casinomir.com) and sometimes we get the question about the name, well.. it’s a complex story and it involves a very short and famous Swedish handball player. Ask us for a full background story on a conference and we will try to explain this further.
What has been the hardest part?
None of us knew anything about SEO before we started out and it turned out to be quite important as an affiliate. If you read about SEO online it’s almost the same as reading about training/fitness, there are so many theories and it’s really hard to sort out good tips from bad ones. Luckily we have a lot of friends within the industry and we have received a lot of valuable tips and help from our friends and other affiliates. In order to become successful with almost anything you have to fail a lot and by getting these tips we could avoid some failures and thereby got a faster progress.
What makes your affiliate company special?
Instead of starting out small like most affiliates do – we did the opposite. Since the start we have focused on working with our back-end system so that we can manage many multilingual affiliate sites in a very flexible, scalable and easy way. Since we both have a limited amount of time to work with this project it’s really important that we are extremely efficient with the limited time. Sometimes limitations can lead to innovations and that’s what we are trying to do here.
What are you looking for in new employees?
The most important thing we are looking for is passion. If you love what you do you will care more about the company you work for and hopefully also become a happier person yourself. Life is too short to be wasted away on meaningless and boring jobs.
Which markets are interesting for you?
This year we will have around 12 different countries on our sites. Scandinavia and the United Kingdom are the most important markets at the moment, but one should remember that approximately 94% of all casino gaming in the world is done offline and there are many up-and-coming markets right now. One of the emerging markets we strongly believe in is Brazil, which has more than 200 million inhabitants, a large middle class, a strong gambling culture and an increasing digitalization.

Are you going to attend the first edition of the Affiliate Grand Slam conference in Tallinn?
Since the start we have attended all the iGaming conferences and Affiliate Grand Slam will not be an exception. Attending events like this keeps you up to date with the latest business news, creates new business opportunities and forms long terms partnerships. It’s also a lot of fun!
What are your passions besides from work?
Both of us are really into sports, especially football and our favourite team is of course Liverpool FC. Our goal with this company is to become the Liverpool’s head sponsor and thereby maybe contributing to some long missed success.
